Hiring: Graphic Designer

Digitas Health is growing and seeking experienced Graphic Designers. Our staff of physicians, musicians, parents, activists, and filmmakers spend their days as programmers, strategists, accountants, marketers, writers, and designers. We also employ talented freelancers in all aspects of production from project management and application development to copy writing and graphic design. JOB SUMMARY:
Creates all graphic elements used in projects (Web sites, intranet sites, CD-ROM applications, print, and video). Develops original designs for some projects; and in doing so, is active in the design process throughout the life of the project, including conceptualization, creation, revision, and production.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Graphics Production
• Performs production tasks for all backgrounds, banner, navigational elements, graphic images, icons, titles, etc., including: Scanning, Cropping, Creating images in Photoshop/Illustrator/Quark
• Assures that each graphic element meets the job-appropriate specifications, including: Resolution, Color palette (web-safe colors), Optimizing for the Web
• Delivers final graphic elements to the production (coding) staff for inclusion in the final product
Graphic Design
• Meets with creative staff, sales staff, and project management staff to gain an understanding of the audience and the message to be conveyed
• Develops and discusses ideas for the look, tone, and feel of the piece to be designed
• Creates original designs
• Revises and produces those designs (see Graphics Production, above)
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor degree in graphic arts, graphic design and illustration, digital media, or a related artistic discipline, and 3-5 years of interactive experience required. A solid understanding of the principles of design and the ability to apply them to complex tasks are crucial. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary. Must exhibit leadership ability, and must exercise good judgment. Must have advanced knowledge of graphic design tools, including Photoshop, QuarkXpress, Illustrator, DeBabelizer, GIF Builder, etc, and a keen understanding of the application of HTML/DHTML, Flash, Indesign and online video. Must have impeccable typographical skills and a disciplined eye for visually organizing information and motion graphic treatments.
