He's one of the most talented people I've ever met, not only as fine artist, but as a designer, political thinker and activist. He always has something interesting to say, and his work is brilliant. At his blog you can catch up with his latest artworks and the ideas behind them.

In their words they are -
"a socially conscious design studio and award winning art project based in Manchester, UK.

We have a multi-disciplinary artist led approach to print, identity, web and event design for a broad range of clients.

Since 2002 we have been developing our own self initiated art projects exploring the built environment, power relations, ecological and social justice."

Also for anyone in the Manchester area in December, they'll be holding an art sale on 13th December, at their studios in Hotspur House.

If you want to keep up on new technology and its effects on our culture(what designer doesn't?) this is a great place to start. Intelligent speakers, fascinating subjects, but mainly just a lot of really useful ideas and info.

What is a Designer - Norman Potter

This neat little book concentrates on theory, rather than showing off the author's design process. This means there are no pictures. It also means you might actually learn a thing or two, as opposed to just looking at pretty graphics and wondering how it's done. Potter comes across as a genuine and likeable figure with a real passion for his subject. Above all there is the earnest desire to help educate designers of all levels and make them think a bit more about the processes we go through, both in learning and plying our trade. Recommended for anyone who wants to think a bit deeper about design. Find out more here
