Biography:

Of Colombian nationality, Monica was born in Berlin, Germany on December 6, 1980. She has lived most of her life in her home city of Medellin; but, has also lived in Germany and New York. Her professional career as an artist and graphic designer gives her an interesting mixture suitable for the creation of images. Images she has been developing with passion since her early years. Her particular concern towards subtlety, melancholy, emptiness, and ambiguity has provided her work unusual aesthetics full of subtle tones that instead give her works life; this is achieved through the individual identities her strokes give to the different characters, objects, and backgrounds. Her portfolio has ranged through various different forms of media; such as drawing, painting, video, photography, animation, and illustration. Her search for a universal language comes from the identification of specific emotions inspired by cinema, music, fashion, photography, dance, travels and by everyday life; all without falling into the clichés that are expected from Latin-American productions. Monica is currently working on projects that involve video composition with various electronic music artists. At the same time she is also currently in the process of developing her personal illustration work.
