OtherBiography:
Having graduated in graphic design in 1999, Nako started working at Pos Imagem Design, one of the most famous design studios in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After five years there, achieving the position of senior designer and building their new media department, he left to freelance for several clients in the music and fashion industries, as well as big advertising agencies.
At the end of 2004, the Dimaquina project – a collective idea of playground creation, which started on late years at Pos Imagem – began to take form. It would be restarted, this time with the intend to do much greater work and open up creative possibilities outside the traditional design studios and that would bring obvious benefits not only to the creative minds involved with it but also for the clients’ development.
In January of 2005, Nako, together with Antonio Pedro and Daniel Neves, gave birth to Dimaquina.com and, from there, the new projects, now belonging to the collective, began to arise in various mediums. Dimaquina has appeared in New York and in Sidney’s Semi-Permanent books, Dazed & Confuzed, Clear Magazine and projects of the Spanish group Acinco. This year, it was published at Die-Gestalten’s book “Disorder In Progressâ€, Rockport Publishing “The Best of The Best Business Card Design†and had its website featured at Taschen’s “Web Design: Flash Sites†book.
Another important role played by Alex Nako for the past six years is being art director for Fernando Gabeira, a federal member of Brazilian parliament, founder of the national green party and an important character of Brazil’s political history – including the participation of the revolutionary movements of the 70s, against the military dictatorship.
