DireTribe is a busy new design firm made up of several practitioners working across the art and design fields; from architecture to graphic design; from film and visual art to industrial design.
DireTribe has quickly grown into a design practice that engages directly with the built environment through a body of work typified by skilful, unique responses to project briefs.
DireTribe hopes to make a significant and meaningful contribution to the lives of our clients. We believe that it is only through understanding the working culture of our clients that we can make a valuable contribution to their environment.
Despite the youthfulness of the firm, DireTribe continues to demonstrate its ability to deliver innovative and thoughtful responses to sometimes difficult briefs.

Dusk Bar_Melbourne

*Well isn’t this all very retro, anti-techno! ….. In an age of parametric modelling and ‘YouTube’, of stereo lithography and Google Earth, the idea of experimentation, testing and experience first hand has become old hat. *
Perhaps we have not recanted our technocrat generation; we are, however, interested in the reconfigured, the reconstituted, the reality principle, the reasonable, the reborn, and the rhetorical.
You will find no safe minimal design here, instead ‘Dusk’ is a confused montage of architectural refuse, of off cuts, and out-dated technology. Dusk isn’t about the recycled. Dusk melds unusual usages of the mundane, of the outdated, and the ‘off the shelf’.
There is something about the lo-fi field of enquiry that has a hold on us : lights constructed from 1000 Cds, the furniture from cable reels, floor and wall paneling a giant jigsaw puzzle.
There is something in the anachronistic that has a certain immediacy, something satisfying about the primitiveness of building, something intimate and tough in the proximity to an instant future or immediate past.
