Biggest Drawing in the World(Internal News)

Extremely cool project by artist Erik Nordenankar. Check out the website for some more information including the travel instructions given to DHL, and a great little video documenting the piece. This strikes me as a brilliant ad campaign by DHL, which would explain why they'd go out of their way to do this; either way, very cool stuff.

BIGGEST DRAWING IN THE WORLD

UPDATE: This project may or may not be complete fiction. Either way, it's intriguing, albeit a waste of time and resources.

care to elaborate?

Stavros did it first! Stavros is the unique positioonal artist! Have you not seen him on the internets?

Interruptor Posted by: Interruptor 139 days ago

haha, that was hilarious. Stavros is the true innovator! More like Nokia vs DHL.

its a super cool concept, but its a hoax according to the telegraph and DHL.

What sort of unknown artist can afford to send DHL on a huge trip like that?
Some of those loops look pretty tough work and completely silly for a DHL freight plane. Link

hmmm, that's interesting.
If you consider it an elaborate advertising campaign by DHL, then obviously the artist wouldn't have to pay a cent for it.
If it is a fake, then i'd be interested to hear so from the artist himself.

I find the routes he "took" very odd... You can't just fly wherever you want!

Interruptor Posted by: Interruptor 138 days ago

That's always been the part that struck me as 'off' as well.
Doesn't really make sense why he would draw it that way when it obviously looks suspect either...

At the end of the website you see > FICTIONAL WORK DHL DID NOT TRANSPORT A GPS AT ANYTIME...and to be honest it really disapointed me, since I find the IDEA EXCELENT and OUTSTANDING but is "not that difficult" to make this work, maybe not a design so big and with less detail, but I truly think this project would be HUGE if he took the time to do it... :) but he didnt and thats where everything falls apart!

And yes positional design was allready done by www.theworldismycanvas.com ;) ehehheh! So...a bit :S

Funny thing about that, when i initially posted this project, that message was not on the website, then the next day it appeared.
I agree that it wouldn't actually be that difficult to accomplish in this day and age, but oh well...

IKE Posted by: IKE 137 days ago

Actually, i think it would be nearly impossible. First of all, there's loads of airspace violations. Then, there's a complete lack of respect for air corridors - even DHL can't just go about flying anywhere they want - and they would need to have loads of airports/airfields strategically placed to fuel the aircrafts... This project would end up blown into pieces over Russia or something...

For a Thesis project I think its a complete plagiarisms of the www.theworldismycanvas.com

However if the student wanted to really tackle a similar concept, would have been interesting for him to actually focus his theses on disproving the "The World Is My Canvas" campaign. As many mentioned above there are financial and political implications to actually execute a project like that. Finding what these details are and would have been and excellent thesis project.
