Personally I would be afraid to pull out my camera in downtown vancouver for fear of being shot, stabbed, raped, and mugged simultaneously, but that's just me. Cool shots.
Haha, you know, people seem to think it's so dangerous downtown van, and it's easy to see where that pretense comes from . . . it certainly looks that way. I try to make a trip down E Hastings at least once a month though, take photos, talk to people or sit in some seedy cafe and chat with some pretty interesting people.
The thing is that all these crazy looking people really aren't dangerous, most of them have their own thing going on . . . usually tripping out or looking for drugs and they really don't even pay attention to you. Almost everyone I talk to (other than the ones too out of it to speak) are really happy to talk. It takes a minute of "What the fuck do you want?!" kind of thing, but once they realize they're not a tourist attraction to you they're really interesting . . . most of them have a pretty tough life. I talked to one guy who was pretty down and out, but he did nothing but try to help me find Jesus and live my life right - pretty humbling coming from an old guy on the streets.
I really encourage people to open their minds to the people they might find dangerous or scary . . . I mean, it might be different somewhere else, I'm not saying go chill with a gang or anything - but Vancouver is pretty tame and the people have a lot to say.
beautiful! i like your work!
