Can Coca-Cola (and Social Media Tech) Save Lives?

For the past few weeks a campaign has been filtering through the blogosphere with exciting speed, reaching the likes of Inhabitat.com, BrandRepublic Treehugger.com and WorldChanging.com.
The ColaLife Campaign started as one man's idea; to tap into the hugely powerful distribution muscles of multi-nationals such as Coca-Cola, and ask them to distribute medicines to dying children in developing countries. Through a simple group on Facebook, ColaLife Campaign founder Simon Berry has gained international support and is now in conversations with Coca-Cola! The power of social networking is truly alive! theyre trying to look good but the reality is far different.
First thing I thought was if this might well be a set-up, a clever piece of eco guirrelia marketing?. Employ someone to set up this campaign, and watch the story unfold in the media as Coca Cola pro-actively start handing medics to the needy. An advancement on the Sony 'PSP Blogger' from a few years back... maybe... or perhaps I'm just being overly cynical...
Wow ronin..
your post had completely changed my vision of this project...
that is so sad.
@ miguex
well, the project is kinda really good, nothing bad about it really,
but I just want people to pay attention to things related with ex. cocacola which doesn't really have a nice background when it comes to developing countries or being eco friendly...
I would just like to reassure everyone that colalife.org is an idea generated by me with no input from Coca-Cola! It started here: www.colalife.org/2008/05/06/using-coca-colas-distribution-muscle
The full history is here: www.colalife.org/blog
Before the ColaLife website was setup and all blog posts moved across, I was using my personal blog: www.simonberry.net
