Demoscene is not dead

So... demoscene is not dead, here is an example, a realtime demo for windows that won the 1st at breakpoint 2007 done by Farbrausch. Well may be some day (I hope soon) Adobe could take note about things like that, and may be some day we can do realtime motion graphics.

+ See the video in Quicktime
+ More video formats at demoscene.tv
+ more works from Farb-Rausch

And the executable file is just 177kb ;D

It's 1 year old tho, but it's still unbeaten. Maybe Life force was on the same level, but not on the byte size. Breakpoint 2008 was some weeks ago and there were some new marvels out of it. Linger in Shadows in instance.

I find the "and it's only XYZ KB in size!" comments are a bit disingenuous.

The executable might be that size, but it also requires a DirectX install of the latest'n'greatest DirectX, and god knows how many other things. Then, it spends a while generating textures, and the final product, textures et al, is slightly above the advertised size...

Please talk English on this board,
its international.

@slater:
It also requires a graphics card, a sound card and a computer. Now, that's cheating! You say it as if doing that could be easy.

Indeed, it needs Directx9, I think, which is not the latest btw. But it uses DirectX as a PROXY for sending poligons to be drawn to the graphics card, and uses the shaders from the graphics card too. If we have the technology why not use it? Apart from that, they coded the syntethiser, the texture generator, the model generator, editing tool, and the final .exe that generates all that beauty its 177kb. Period.

If you can do better than that, do it. But I can tell you that all that work is the result of 20 years of experience doing exactly that for different platforms.

Otherwise, if you don't appreciate the effort of the guys being able to fit all that on 177kb it's better to don't say anything, believe me, 10 years ago I also though it was stupid, I have learnt a bit of coding since.

Sorry BRT!
I was commenting on some demo scene projects from the mid 90s, Jizz and Stash.
(you can see them in youtube) they used to be delivered in very light (177kb) executable files (EXE). And that lead to the discussion above. ;)
