Biography:

Transistor Studios is a design company working in, motion design, Interactive, DVD, and print, along with live-action film production. Transistor was started in January 2001 doing in-house DVD and web design for its sister company, Backyard Productions. Transistor currently has studios in New York and Venice, California.

Transistor’s founding working partners, Damen Meena and Jared Plummer, EP and ECD respectively, were both educated at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. They got their professional starts at H-Gun and Tricky Pictures in Chicago; both companies known for their early adoption and innovation in motion design. Steve Weinshel, the third working partner and Director of Business Development, joined Transistor in 2002. Weinshel brought 15 years of live-action commercial production experience and a history of business management.

Transistor’s business model of presenting design directors and their individual styles, in contrast to their competitors “studio model,” has been very well received by clients. The Transistor model allows clients to select a director for a particular project based on their individual style. Once the design director is selected, they are involved from inception to completion of a project in association with the client.

Transistor’s acclaimed design directors, working within the Transistor model, have produced a solid body of work for clients including; Wieden & Kennedy, CPB, Element 79, GSD & M, Mullen Advertising, Wieden & Kennedy-Amsterdam, HBO, Showtime, MTV, VH1, and Sundance Channel to name a few.
