seo
SEO or search engine optimisation can mean many things to different people. To me its more about building links to my sites rather than playing about with the coding on the pages. Page content does however carry a lot of weight and unique content is the king. Content should be fairly keyword rich but without going over the top and "stuffing" the page with your selected keywords.
Link building is probably the hardest part of seo as there are literally billions of sites out there. Some people choose to trade links with other sites however i prefer getting one way inbound links to my sites. This can be done in several ways. Free directories are the first port of call as there is hundreds and thousands of them about, just do a simple google search for free directories and you will soon find a big list of them. Currently i submit my sites to around 10-15 free directories a day. Another great way to build links is to write articles and submit them to ezine article websites. When submitting an article you are allowed to leave 2 or 3 links in your author information, the article should also be on theme with your links helping to target your traffic. One great thing about article sites is that once submitted to a site for syndication your article and links may appear on hundreds of other sites.

Need to learn
I am definatly going to have to improve on my graphic skills, at the moment most of my websites look a bit to basic and could do with upgrading. There are graphics sites about and also loads of template sites but i would like to learn my own. I have an old copy of paintshop pro so i might have a look around for some other graphics software. If anyone knows of some good graphics software to make buttons and shaded backgrounds with please drop me a comment.
I have cascading style sheets worked out a bit better now so putting images as table backgrounds is my prefered choice now. Its just over all style and colour schemes i need to work on. Well its 4 am and i think im going to have to go to sleep soon and start again tomorrow.

my first site
Well hello world, im new here but it looks like a really good place to learn some new tricks and to find out some useful information about computers and technology. At the moment i am working on my web directory which runs on the cool php script phplinkdirectory. I am currently running the free version of the script and learning about php programming as i go along. The site also has a web log but i am only using that to keep notes about the directory. My directory has a few categories including a section for forums this is probably least filled of all the categories at the moment. There is also a suggest a category feature.
The site is aimed at web masters wanting to gain backlinks to their sites and has a review fee. The site currently offers 3 kinds of link submission including featured, regular and reciprocal. Due to the unfortunate amount of spam my directory was getting at one time i have had to include a small charge for a site review just to make them stop. The cheapest and best way to get listed in my site is by a reciprocal link, you can trade links with my site for $2. As i said the charge is only there to ensure real sites are included in the directory. It helps keep it spam free and listing quallity sites only.
