Born:
September 18, 1978
Job:
Graphic Designer
Website
None
Status:
Employed
Biography:

I design graphics for websites, create hand-drawn illustrations and can walk on my hands. Or my feet if you prefer. I do occasionally design stuff for print too, although not so much these days. I am gainfully employed at the wonderful (soon to be called*) Setfire Media, but I also do stuff in my own time.

*The company is currently called something else, but it sucks and no-one understands it, so I'm not going to bother you with it here. We'll be fully rebranded soon anyway, so don't worry about that.

Interests:

People, stories, art.

Jai Redman(Internal News)

Jai Redman

My old work colleague and friend Jai has recently begun an blog. He's one of the most talented people I've ever met, not only as fine artist, but as a designer, political thinker and activist. He always has something interesting to say, and his work is brilliant. At his blog you can catch up with his latest artworks and the ideas behind them.

UHC(Internal News)

The fantastic UHC have recently updated their site. In their words they are -
"a socially conscious design studio and award winning art project based in Manchester, UK.

We have a multi-disciplinary artist led approach to print, identity, web and event design for a broad range of clients.

Since 2002 we have been developing our own self initiated art projects exploring the built environment, power relations, ecological and social justice."

Also for anyone in the Manchester area in December, they'll be holding an art sale on 13th December, at their studios in Hotspur House.

IT Conversations
Just started listening to some of the podcasts on this site a couple of weeks ago, thought I should mention it here. If you want to keep up on new technology and its effects on our culture(what designer doesn't?) this is a great place to start. Intelligent speakers, fascinating subjects, but mainly just a lot of really useful ideas and info.

Design books you should read - part 1.

What is a Designer - Norman Potter

This neat little book concentrates on theory, rather than showing off the author's design process. This means there are no pictures. It also means you might actually learn a thing or two, as opposed to just looking at pretty graphics and wondering how it's done. Potter comes across as a genuine and likeable figure with a real passion for his subject. Above all there is the earnest desire to help educate designers of all levels and make them think a bit more about the processes we go through, both in learning and plying our trade. Recommended for anyone who wants to think a bit deeper about design. Find out more here

Elastic Lists(Internal News)

Elastic Lists
An interesting way of displaying complex data.
From the blog of Moritz Stefaner, a talented individual who seems to be doing a lot for making the case for information aesthetics.
