COMPFIGHT

Ryan & Bryan claim they fashioned COMPFIGHT with glue sticks, rubber bands and a love of advertising. I believe every word. Whether or not this is a re-post, COMPFIGHT is an invaluable inspiration resource and a nicely re-engineered conduit of the Flickr API.

crazy smiles: beijing 08 bmx

The Nike SB crew threw a party at the Brooklyn Project shop on Melrose. The show marked the 20th anniversary of BMX's all time great, Freestylin' mag. Which also served as the breeding ground for the creative power trio, The Master Cluster.
Mark Lewman, Spike Jonze, Matt Hoffman, Eddie Fiola were all on hand to sign special limited edition books of Freestylin’ as well as exclusive boxes filled with custom goodness. Plates from the Lightning Bolts show were also on display.
Andy Jenkins designed an amazing retrospective on the Freestylin' publication. Produced by Portland's best kept secret (for now), NEMO.

Foam and Typography

Really intriguing type forms by John Caserta. Given the fact that these were created in 2002-03, they've probably been posted somewhere by someone before. The re-post police might whine, but whatever. These are great enough to bear a repeating viewing.
From John's site:
I spent two semesters experimenting with a hot-wire foam cutter. Using this room-sized machine, I applied speed and space to the familiar 2-D letterform. Five different results are included here: bi-directional letterforms, Helvetica cut when the cutter is moving quickly, type cut around a corner, type cut through punctuation, and the results from interstitial forms.
Interesting video frame grab implementation too. Have a look.

adam haynes

Adam fills out Nemo's Nike 6.0 work with his sick scrawls, but that's not all (at all) — as evidenced at his site, Stick Fort and in his upcoming show this Friday, March 7 at Life and Limb here in PDX/OR.

There is Xerox on the Insides of Your Eyelids

There is Xerox on the Insides of Your Eyelids opened last Saturday (2/9) at the Needles and Pens gallery in San Francisco. Billed as, “an art exhibition exploring the realm of 1980’s skate zines & xerox art from a small space in time (about 20 years ago), + what they do now.” and featuring_ “the zines & art of the original makers and xerox tweakers / stamp lickers / mail artists…”,_ the show was curated by artist/curator and zine maker, Rich Jacobs (Skate-Edge + Move).
