Biography:

Since 2001, OFFF is exploring software aesthetics and new languages for interactive and visual expression.

Every year, the festival features digital artists, web and print designers, motion graphic studios and avant-garde electronic musicians. But OFFF is more than an event about any of these disciplines. More than a design conference, a multimedia trade fair, or a digital animation festival. OFFF is an enthusiastic celebration of a new visual culture.

From exercises in interactive synesthesia that excite all our senses to stage performances made of lines of computer code. All this, and much more, is shown every year at OFFF; one of the essential meeting points for the international scene of postdigital creation.

Past participants in OFFF include legends of graphic design and visual communication like Neville Brody, Tomato, Kyle Cooper or Stefan Sagmeister; acknowledged software artistssuch as Jared Tarbell, Lia, Casey Reas y Ben Fry, or Daniel Brown; innovators of the moving image like We work for Them, Tronic Studio, D-Fuse or Renascent; explorers of advanced interaction like Soda, James Paterson, Amit Pitaru or Craig Swann; and the most important names that have defined the aesthetics of the experimental and creative side of the Web: Joshua Davis, Yugo Nakamura, Hi-Res!, Josh Ulm, or Erik Natzke. The festival has also a special spot for the main names in the Spanish scene (Area3, Vasava, Innothna, Cocoe, Dani Granatta, La Mosca...) and for creators of surprising new kinds of sonic landscapes: Tujiko Noriko, The Vegetable Orchestra, Sutekh, Taylor Deupree, System, Daedelus, Stephan Mathieu, Kenneth Kirschner...

OFFF is spreading the work of a generation of creators that are breaking all kind of limits. Those separating the commercial arena from the worlds of art and design; music from illustration, or ink and chalk from pixels. Artists that have grown with the web and receive inspiration from digital tools, even when their canvas is not the screen.

I have seen many conferences from Joshua Davis. And I just cant get sick of them, it´s always truly interesting and always funny. He as talked about some new inspirations and some new projects. He is without any doubt one of the biggest artists and entertainers. Like he said to me "I just try to make my shit interesting" and he truly achieves is purpose. Congrats Joshua for another outstanding conference.

OFFF 2008 Lisbon, Day 2 - ALEX TROCHUT

Everyone knew the HIGH quality of Alex Trochut work, but it was still a surprise. A extra chill and professional conference, where he calmly browsed is works explaining some concepts and ideas behind. He is in the 3rd generation and he is representing the best possible. Another amazing conference that everyone will remember for a long time.

OFFF - day 3(Group News)

Day 3 and a hell of a start, Spanish Boolab which I didn't had a big idea who they were gave be a very nice surprise, showing the Offf attendees some incredible creative motion work.

The two other morning presentations were quite good, Adobe had Craig Swan making some interactive generative graphics and then Agence7Seven showcased their work, unfortunately I wasn't their to watch none of them.

The afternoon opened in great style! The motion graphics panel with Minivegas , Onesize and Gmunk all of them showcasing their work and discussing work processes.

This was my first time seeing a presentation of the Belgium company Group94 and I was amazed by their techniques ( I already knew their work), a very nice presentation with a good mood and the same impressive work they got us accustomed.

For me the most awaited presentation as I am a great fan of Rob Chiu and Chris Hewitt they started big with the spectacular work made for the OFFF opening titles. Then some talking on the working processes and some more work, I think the sound could be better on this presentation.

Fallon the creators of Sony "Balls" let everybody with their mouth open...what more to say...

The end...well the end had a great sound, a combination of piano, electronic music and light, personally didn't all that interesting, but a great thing none the less.

In the overall, the OFFF Lisbon was fucking great! The weather was cool, a lot of people and friends, great presentations and the promess of a OFFF Lisbon 2009! Hope to see a lot more people next year!

Offf 2008 Lisbon Overall feeling...(Group News)

Well after 3 days at OFFF, I'm still stoked about what happen this year in Lisbon. All OFFF records were beaten, there were more then 2500 people at OFFF when at Barcelona the biggest crowd was 1200 people. The atmosphere during the event was great. After a few years going to OFFF, I have reached a simple conclusion, events like this are truly needed, not only because its important to gather the worlds biggest, artists, designers, creative persons, coders and expose there work during the conferences but it´s also important to gather all this people around the world to exchange ideas and feelings about the actual scene.

It´s amazing just to watch the exchange of contacts and even work during OFFF, it truly moves our world and shakes the heads of many to become better professionals and to extend all our limits to another level. It´s impossible to describe the repercussions of an event like this, since I believe every time an OFFF event happens it really moves us all forward.

It also has a huge impact in the local scene, since in Portugal 90% of the Design companies were present at the event and not only digital, but from all kinds of design disciplines.

There was a few flaws, nothing special really and since it´s the first year happening in Portugal. I believe that the problems with the Wi-Fi and some other small ones were totally understood by everyone. Since it´s a huge event and the organization always stand up to problems and tried to solved them all as fast as possible.

We are still updating the Blog after the event, so expect some photo galleries and some videos. Stay Tuned and don´t miss next year event.

Cpluv loved OFFF 2008 Lisbon.

OFFF Lisboa - Day 02(Group News)

It all started with 50Done & Friends showcasing works on print, motion, but above all a great opportunity for some more Portuguese designers show their great work, I wasn't at this presentation due to workshop issues and by that I lost yet another amazing presentation by Karlssonwilker Inc. a presentation that according to all the people I've talked to was incredible!

I attended Hecq workshop that was really cool, he talked about all his process of work how you have to have a really good idea and be really dynamic to make some sounds, from 30 seconds sounds and those hard 5 seconds sounds where you really have to give your best.

Hellohikimori, the French due gave a nice presentation showcasing their work from print to digital, but I really think this could be better, I've seen better things from them :)

The Data Visualization Panel (Aaron Koblin, Santiago Ortiz, Manuel Lima & José Luis Vicente as a moderator) showed some incredible things, exploring all kind of networks with a special attention to social networks, but the sound of it wasn't all that great.

Fakepilot what to say about this guy... a great entrance with a Daft Punk style to it, then he made a journey trough his work talking about ripped off work, about his journey to Japan, I think nothing new beside that entrance.

Interaction Design Panel (This Happened) with Joel Gethin Lewis, Chris O'Shea and Andreas Muller made a trip trough their incredible work, this guys make things the way they just look like easy to do!

Alex Trochut, probably the best work I saw this day, this man really rocks! Great typography works, amazing illustrations, a man to keep watching!

Hi-Res went trough the incredible work they make, some funny things in the middle but nothing really really impressive to see, yet they have like this high quality thing with them!

Another great day at the OFFF, with another drinking and having fun day :D

Wi-Fi problem solved...(Group News)

The Wi-Fi problem was solved, finally we are broadcasting live from OFFF. At this precise moment Fake Pilot is on stage with a surprising presentation, using is pilot helmet.

Offf 2008 Feel & Look(Group News)

OFFF 2008 is being great, everything is running smoothly. It´s allways good to see so much people getting involved in this kind of event, by walking around you can really feel that we are getting bigger every year, more then ever our creative scene is growing. The space as different look and feel from the usual Barcelona, since it´s being held in an "abandon" factory it´s much more underground.

We are having a few problems reporting directly from OFFF since the Wi-Fi is not working properly, there are still a few tests running. We hope they fix it fast!

OFFF Lisbon - Day 01(Group News)

I didn't had the opportunity to see the KDU members presentation but got a very nice surprise with Portuguese Vítor Queilhas from dyntypo showcasing some forms of exploring typography in a more digital manner and of course Dino Santos from DSType Foundry that talked about his work progress and the type is working.

North Kingdom didn't make it to the OFFF so Erik Natzke made the honors and did a amazing job with that, I talked to people after the presentation and all of them really loved the presentation!

Remon Tijssen aka Fluid has some amazing work! I knew his work from Fluid but he showed some new things that kept me close to the screen. Random International this was probably the best presentation of the day (in my point of view of course), they showcased their work and were really funny also showing some drawings they made about what should be and shouldn't be Wi-Fi, really great presentation.

Trafik is a French studio with some interesting work, but the presentation wasn't all that good I think this was their first presentation in English so I totally understand the hard work they had to bring this thing together so give them the credit for that and for their work.

Next I saw AllofUs and this guys have such an incredible work! Please check their website to see it all because they are really great their presentation was also a very good one and the work speaks for it self.

Good old Joshua Davis it's always a pleasure to see this guy although I had enough of it :P (I've seen twice in the last to European OFFF's)

The $30 million company Psyop gave a nice presentation walking trough their working process and methods on making some of their work, mainly one of the last ones for Absolut with some incredible imagery and 8000/fps shoots.

Let the games begin...(Group News)

Yes OFFF is up and running and the rumors are true there are more then 2500 people, it´s amazing to see so many creatives together, all joined in this event. Keep an eye open on updates, because we are broadcasting live.
