Designers' celebration time (Stockholm, May 2008)

European Design Week, a series of exciting design events including exhibitions, presentations and receptions, is taking place in Stockholm between May 15-18 2008, culminating in the ED-Awards ceremony on May 18.
A list of all the events can be found here.
Keep in mind that the specific list is expected to grow further, so if you're interested keep checking.
The ED-Conference is probably the most prominent of these events, bringing together fifteen of Europe's most important design studios in a series of presentations and debates.
The speakers list is quite impressive and includes studios from 15 different nations. You can have a look at the list right here.

Film Festival Locarno to present the 2008 poster

Film Festival Locarno unveiled the poster for this year’s events at the Solothurn Film Festival this month. The presentation has become something of an annual tradition, presenting the key visual motif of the years events, which will be incorporated in the Festival’s advertising, merchandising, and information, and marking the beginning of a series of events that will see the Festival touring Berlin, Cannes, Rome, London and Los Angeles ahead of opening its own event in early August.

In an extension of last year’s major re-branding exercise, Jannuzzi Smith has created a poster featuring ‘Chota’, the new symbol of the Festival. Chota lives in a zoological sanctuary in the Oxfordshire countryside. Blind at birth, she was rejected by her mother, but under the care of a watchful keeper she regained her sight and now thrives – by turn playful and dangerous, always elegant. Dynamite Brothers Syndicate

Dynamite Brothers Syndicate is a japanese editorial and graphic design agency located in Tokyo/Japan. They had worked on magazines like GQ Japan, Living Design etc. Currently, the company is not only working on major japanese magazines such as Tokyo Calendar, Monthly m, FRaU, Japanese edition of Harper’s BAZAAR and MilK, but also on other fields of graphic design. The company won the One Show Merit Award in 2006. They've just updated their website.

designers united in Greece

"designersunited.gr" is a design group that was founded by acclaimed art directors Dimitris Koliadimas and Dimitris Papazoglou in order to engage visual research and systematic methodology into the design process. Founded in Thessaloniki Greece, it has successfully completed a variety of demanding projects, both print and screen, by creating a visual language that enables clients to improve and strengthen their visual identity. The group has been awarded with the "Grand EBGE", Greece's top National Award for Design and Illustration, as well as an ED-Award.

Black Slabbath

The heaviest typeface in the world, Black Slabbath, is now available. There’s only one thing about this new typeface that isn’t colossally black: the razor-thin white space. It slices through and between geometric characters, creating a juxtaposition of contrasts and rhythms.
